Admissions Details
NIHS maintains a waiting list for out-of-zone applicants when places are available. For Year 7, the waiting list is activated in Week 1, Term 4. Families are contacted if vacancies become available. A review of non-offers can be requested from central office before 21 August 2026.
School Day
The school day opens at 8:15am. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: Connect period 8:45–9:00am, lessons 9:00am–3:20pm, recess 11:00–11:30am, lunch 1:30–2:00pm. Wednesdays: Professional Learning Communities block 8:40–9:55am, Connect period 10:05–10:20am, then resumption of timetable.
Student Life
Four houses: Morialta, Lofty, Murray and Torrens. The house system links students and staff through various activities and events; each house has student representatives who lead activities and compete for points throughout the year.
Uniform is required for all students. Middle school (Years 7–9) and Year 10 wear the sports uniform on days with physical activity. Years 11–12 wear the full school uniform and change into the sports uniform only for sports-related lessons. Uniforms are supplied by UMS and can be ordered online or at the Firle store.
Rory's School Lunches supports canteen services. The canteen offers a rotating menu with items such as pastas, curries, stir-fries, wraps, subs, burgers and hot dogs, prepared with fresh ingredients and without preservatives. Orders can be placed via the Qkr! app or at the canteen with full EFTPOS facilities.

Wellbeing & Safety
A dedicated wellbeing team includes a Director of Wellbeing, three Wellbeing Leaders, an Engagement and Inclusion Leader, and a Director of International Student Programs. Connect teachers deliver the student development programme within six year-level learning communities. Restorative practices and professional learning support the well-being for learning approach. Student counselling is available for personal concerns, study and career guidance.
Student Services is the first point of contact for first aid and health care. Connect teachers are supported by subject teachers, Learning Community Leaders and the Executive team to monitor behaviour and welfare and promote student safety. Policies and procedures are available to staff electronically via the Staff Handbook and Teams.
